Home Page – Durdle Door

Another favourite shot of mine, and one worthy of being on my home page. This was taken one December, late afternoon, with the sun not quite setting but well on its way.

Durdle Door is one of Dorset most famous landmarks. It is a natural limestone arch, located on the Jurassic Coast, on land privately owned by the Weld family.

You can get to Durdle Door by following the road from Wareham to Lulworth Cove, and turning right as you enter Lulworth village. You drive through Durdle Door Holiday Park www.lulworth.com/durdle-door-holiday-park to get to the car park on top of the cliffs. From there it is a short walk to the stunning view on this image.

I have tried to capture the scale of the overall scene in this shot, with the foreground path included to provide depth to the image. I love the dramatic sky, the colours and the overall drama and impact of the scene.

Technical information

Camera – Canon 6D

Lens – Canon 8-15mm F4 L lens

Focal length used – 15mm

ISO 400

Shutter speed – 1/1600th second

Aperture – F8

Mode – AV, handheld.

I am happy with the exposure of this shot, which was taken handheld at IS0 400. I used the 15mm of my fantastic 8-15mm zoom lens, giving an ultra-wide but almost rectilinear image.
