Picture of the RNLI Memorial in Poole

The alternative black and white edit of the picture of the RNLI Memorial in Poole.

November 02, 2016

Today is black and white portfolio day in my world. So here is an alternative edit of the picture of the RNLI Memorial in Poole.

On my photography blog you can find my entire black and white photography portfolio, all 40 images.

Alternative image number 2 is the picture of the RNLI Memorial in Poole. The RNLI website is well worth checking out, at http://rnli.org/Pages/default.aspx, as well as the page about the memorial http://rnli.org/aboutus/historyandheritage/Pages/Memorial-sculpture.aspx

This is going to be another big dramatic black and white conversion.

Hopefully.

What I did in Nik Silver Efex Pro was as follows

Preset

I chose High Structure Harsh, as I wanted to extract every bit of detail out of the image. This preset did the job very nicely indeed.

Dynamic Brightness

I increased the Dynamic brightness 82%. Again I wanted the image to pop, and I already knew a vignette was on the way.

Filter

I tried all the filters, but the red filter worked the best, so that is what I went with. Well I would wouldn’t I?

And finally, the vignette

Vignette Lens Falloff 3. I wanted a heavy vignette.

To be honest it was not that striking in the end. I might redo this tomorrow.

What do you think?

This is after all personal work, and further experimentation with the wonderful Nik Silver Efex Pro. Or playing with photos. Call it what you want. It is something I enjoy doing.

Tomorrow I will produce a few more variations of portfolio images. I am going to be a bit bolder tomorrow, why not after all?

And I have a ridiculous edit to post that I did earlier. Until tomorrow then…….
