I love this ferry. If you can love a ferry that is. You know what I mean......
It is the chain ferry that runs from Sandbanks to Shell Bay, cutting across the entrance to Poole Harbour.
You can find out more about the chain ferry at the Bournemouth-Swanage Motor Road and Ferry Company website.
Catch the ferry and you save 25 miles of driving.
And it is ace.
I love going down to the chain ferry and just watching it load, cross the channel and return. You can park in front of the Haven Hotel at the pay and display car park and sit on the benches and watch the spectacle. You can hear the chains when the ferry sets off. And there are all the other boats coming in an out of Poole Harbour, plus the odd bigger boat.
And it is even better going on the ferry and enjoying the short crossing.
The chain ferry is a great subject to photograph, and this image is from my 2008 collection which I have re-edited. This edit is completely different from the previous edit, and was done on my IPad using Lightroom Mobile. The new version of this picture is much more striking. And now I am going to produce a new black and white version which I will post shortly.
