Footnote to my review of the Apple Watch – the opposite view (sort of) from Four Hour Work Week by Tim Ferriss - a great read or listen

This book was a contributing factor in me returning my Apple Watch. There is lots in this book, but one thing in particular which I will get on to.

I listened to this book whilst driving about doing my daily business – it was so good I managed to listen to it in a week pretty much from start to finish. I have heard about it from a few sources so gave it a try.

The book is written by Tim Ferriss, and the book has its’ own website called Four Hour Work Week.

Not surprisingly.

And an excellent read it was too.

I have extracted this from Amazon, from where you can buy the download for less than a tenner in Kindle format.

“In this fascinating book, Timothy Ferriss details his road to financial success and the steps he took along the way. His plan is simple to follow, easy to apply and relevant for anyone looking to make a change.

Forget the old concept of retirement and the rest of the deferred-life plan - there is no need to wait and every reason not to, especially in unpredictable economic times. Whether your dream is escaping the rat race, experiencing high-end world travel, earning a monthly five-figure income with zero management, or just living more and working less, this book is the blueprint.

This step-by step guide to luxury lifestyle design teaches:

How Tim went from $40,000 dollars per year and 80 hours per week to $40,000 per MONTH and 4 hours per week

How to outsource your life to overseas virtual assistants for $5 per hour and do whatever you want

How blue-chip escape artists travel the world without quitting their jobs

How to eliminate 50% of your work in 48 hours using the principles of a forgotten Italian economist

How to trade a long-haul career for short work bursts and frequent 'mini-retirements'.

This new updated and expanded edition includes:

More than 50 practical tips and case studies from readers (including families) who have doubled their income, overcome common sticking points, and reinvented themselves using the original book as a starting point

Real-world templates you can copy for eliminating email, negotiating with bosses and clients, or getting a private chef for less than £5 a meal

How lifestyle design principles can be suited to unpredictable economic times

The latest tools and tricks, as well as high-tech shortcuts, for living like a diplomat or millionaire without being either.”

And this is the first thing I took from the book.

How many times a day do you need to check your emails. Tim suggested twice a day.

Try it. It won’t kill you.

I did. And the world did not end. Everything was just fine. I check my emails much less without any impact other than spending less time checking emails.

Simple eh?

And you can apply this principle to lots of other things.

Hence not the best time to buy a watch that provides instant notifications all day every day.

Another time Apple I may try your watch again, but not at the moment.

I will listen to this excellent book again and take more pointers on how to improve my working life.

Before I go, there are other ways you can buy this wonderful book from Amazon,

Kindle - less than a tenner

Hardback £22.00 at the time of writing

Paperback - also less than a tenner

And finally the Audiobook which I got free using the Audiobook three month free trial.
