Are you looking for a new photography podcast? I was, but could not find it. So I decided to create my own.
The Photography Explained Podcast is my podcast where I explain one photography thing per episode in plain English in less than 10 minutes. No irrelevant detail. No bull. No fancy words. Just enough information to help you and I with our photography and no more. I know how to use my TV but I do not have a clue how it actually works – if you like me are happy with this level of knoweldge then this podcast is for you too!
So join me and learn lots of good stuff once a week in less than 10 minutes!

“Hi everybody. Welcome to the Photography Explained podcast.
I’m your host Rick and each week I will try to explain one photographic thing to you in plain English in less than 10 minutes.
In this first episode of my brand new photography podcast I will introduce myself to you all and tell you what my podcast is all about.
Why Photography Explained?
Well I listen to podcasts all the time but have never found a podcast that explains photography stuff to the level that I want things explaining.
That is one thing at a time and in plain English.
So I decided to start my own podcast, and here it is!
What do I mean by photography thing?
To be honest I couldn’t think of a better way of putting it. When I say thing I mean a single photographic thing. It could be a technical term, an acronym, a company or a product. Anything really. Hence thing.
But one thing at a time.
I am looking forward to sharing the knowledge built over more 30 years practising photography, and also to learning new things myself.
The point of my podcast is to explain things in enough detail to help you and me with our photography and no more. I will not get bogged down in too much detail – there are plenty of other places for that. I do not have the time or patience to deep dive into everything.
I just want to know what I need to know to help me with my photography.
I will try to explain each photography thing in a nice, leisurely style.
There will be digressions and ad libs along the way, based on my lifetime practising photography.
There will be no editing, not to start with anyway as I don’t know how to do this yet. It will be me talking into a microphone in my office. All I will have is headings about the subject that I have come up with for the podcast episode, and notes of course on things that I have had to do research on.
Ok this episode has been written in advance. It is the first episode after all, and I don’t want to make a mess of it. If it sounds like I am reading something out that is because I am, but this will be the first and the last time that I do this.
Ok – a bit about me
I am photographer based in the UK. I am professionally qualified in photography and also professionally qualified in construction, so it will be no surprise to hear that I specialise in architectural photography and construction photography.
I also love travel, and of course travel photography.
I have three websites at the moment
rickmcevoyphotography.com is my main website, where you can find out all about me and read my weekly photography blog. You can also see a small selection of my photography work there.
This website is also the home of this podcast.
photosofsantorini.com is a website I created all about travel photography on the wonderful Greek Island of Santorini.
And finally there is paxostravelguide.com, my third website which is a travel website about the equally wonderful Greek Island of Paxos.

This is the January 2021 update to this blog post – I have created a website for the Photography Explained Podcast which is now live and lovely.
So all the blog posts for podcast episodes have been moved over there.
Outside of photography, my interests are

- Travel
- Cricket
- Football
- Reading
- Listening to Podcasts
- And exercise – when I can be bothered. I am a bit hit and miss with this to be honest.
- I also like beer and wine. After exercise.
You will have probably guessed by now that I am not a professional broadcaster – far from it.
I am just a normal chap talking to myself in my home office. I do that too much to be honest!
The next episode of my podcast will be a quick dive into what photography is. Don’t worry, after this I will get very specific. I just wanted to start at the very beginning of photography with what it actually means.
Oh yes, do let me know if there is something photography related that you want me to explain and I will add it to the list on my website.
I hope to have show notes on my website soon. I have never done this before remember, so please bear with me while I get this stuff sorted. I will publish the list of future subjects on my website too so you can see what is planned for the future. Let me know if you want something adding to the list.

Phew – finally done it!

Well I have submitted it to Apple Podcast and Google Podcast places which are under review. My podcast is live and well and available on Spotify though which is most excellent!
