The first picture taken using my Canon 24mm tilt shift lens is this picture of St Mark's Church in Ampfield - this is the black and white version.

Black and white architectural photography in Hampshire by Rick McEvoy

This is the black and white version of the picture I posted yesterday, produced using Nik Silver Efex Pro, my favourite free software from Google.

This is how I produced this image.

Preset

  • Full Contrast and Structure

Filter

  • Red

Brightness

  • Overall -35%
  • Dynamic Brightness + 18%

Vignette

  • Lens Falloff 2

Now I know I have talked about finding some new software to produce black and white images, and now is the time to do this.

I am going to start with what I have on my computer.

I did go through a phase of buying all sorted of software which I never got round to learning to use properly.  So much so that I have produced some awful stuff using Lightroom plug-ins.

I need to move on from Nik Silver Efex Pro, which is not being maintained by Google, and apparently will not be developed any further, meaning that at some point it will fall over.

The search begins for the successor to Nik!
