I prefer the original edit, rather than the brighter more vivid picture produced using the Snapseed HDR filter.
Either way an iconic Santorini view, which I am delighted to have captured.

This is the fist image I took. It is a single image capture on my Canon 6D processed in Lightroom, cleaned up in Photoshop, with extra versions produced using Snapseed.

The top image is the Snapseed edit. The bottom picture is the edit in Lightroom Mobile, used to create the top image.

The bottom image is the original edit in Lightroom Mobile, which was then opened in Snapseed on my iPad and the HDR filter applied.
Which image do you prefer?

This is the Snapseed HDR version of the picture of Watergate Bay beach I posted earlier. You get the idea but not great.

Snapseed. Well I need something to replace Nik Silver Efex Pro.
And I believe that some of the people at Snapseed were some of the people at Nik.
And Google owns both.
The story goes that Google bought Nik for the brains behind the software, so they could produce Snapseed.
And then Google let the Nik Collection go.
Which is where I am now.
Nik is to be no more at some point in the future, so I will lose Nik Silver Efex Pro.
What to do next?
Well I have Snapseed on my iPad Pro and on my iPhone. And it is free.
So lets give it a go and find out.

I am using Snapseed at the moment while I find a replacement for Nik Silver Efex Pro.

Yesterday I posted the colour version of this picture of the Ponte Vecchio Bridge. Today so the black and white version which I created using Snapseed on my iPad Pro.
Snapseed is a very quick and easy App to create pretty good black and white photographs.
Why not indeed?
My image of the week for this week was this picture of the Battistero di San Giovanni in Pisa. A magnificent structure.

You know, the one that I came across when I was looking for something else.
That is the benefit of not having the perfect Lightroom Catalogue – there are always surprises in there. Seriously I wish my Lightroom Catalogue was more organised but it isn’t.
Going back to this image. Here is a different version of the image where I have increased the exposure by 2 stops.
Well why not? I fancied a break from the intense stuff I am working on at the moment.

Don’t tell anyone but I enjoy editing architectural photography images. Even more so when it is just experimenting, playing around in Photoshop and Lightroom.
When I am trying to collate a set of 12 images for my architectural photographer page that is fine, but has deadlines attached so is not as much fun.
Time to play with my photos is fun to me.
The original edit was quite dark, with deep rich colours. Next In this post is a black and white version using Snapseed (which I am using until I find a replacement for Nik Silver Efex Pro).

And then I did an alternative edit. I was looking at the first edit and thought about going completely the other way.
I made a virtual copy in Lightroom then I played around, adding some Dehaze, Clarity and increasing the exposure. Finally I upped the whites and went to the left with the blacks slider to give something completely different.
And then I went for a crop of the original image – a tight square crop. And this is my favourite version of this image.

A quick word about Snapseed. I quite like it. I open an image in it, scroll down to the black and white filter, select that, then choose between Neutral, Contrast, Bright, Dark, Film and Darken Sky options. Sure you can do more but that is enough for me., and has given me some pretty good results.
Back to the image. And the point of this post.
Experiment.
Try new things.
Enjoy yourself.
I will no doubt produce some other variants on this image over the coming week, but this is food for thought for now?

Sorry. Forgot the image. So here it is. Processed on my iPhone using Snapseed no less. Yes the time is coming when I need to move on from Nik Silver Efex Pro, as at some point it will fall over, as it is not being maintained or updated by Google. Which is a shame.
I am quite liking Snapseed for very quick black and white conversions on my iPad/ iPhone, but will now start looking for alternatives.
