My Step-By-Step Guide To How I Apply Metadata To Photos In Lightroom
So what is metadata?
Metadata in photography refers to data about an image, not surprising. Metadata comes into three main categories
1 Camera settings
And all that other good stuff from the camera. This is generally recorded by the camera at the time of image capture.
2 Describe a photo in words.
This is the descriptive metadata. This is generally added to a photo on a computer or other device by the photographer.
3 Rights info.
Don't copy my photo, that kind of thing. Again, generally added after image capture (by you the photographer – but can we automate this?).
My Step-By-Step Guide To How I Organise My Photos in Lightroom
My photos are organised in a logical structured fashion in a single Lightroom catalogue. The management and organisation of my photos have been built into my workflow. I'm able to find photos taken anywhere at any time quickly and easily. I also know where new photos are in my workflow. Yeah, I built the file and folder structure around my workflow.
Step-By-Step Guide To How I Edit My Photos in Lightroom
I edit my photos in Lightroom using my well-refined workflow. I import the photos into Lightroom, and apply my own import presets, which are things I do to every image, which Lightroom does for me. I start with the basic panel in the Develop module and work through the panels in a logical way. I edit my photos to enhance the photos that I have taken to present the images the best I can.
Step-By-Step Guide To How I Get The Photos Off My Camera Safely and Securely
I get the photos off my camera by inserting the memory card directly into a slot on my PC. I import the photos into Lightroom, which at the same time makes a backup of the import on a separate hard drive. I apply some presets to the photos in Lightroom, and also carry out a cloud backup, I copy the photos to a hard drive stored off-site before I delete the photos on the memory card.
Step-By-Step Guide To How I Take A Photo
I follow these steps for every photo that I take, which enables me to produce consistently high-quality photos, which all have my own look, feel and style. Follow these steps whenever you take photos and you might see an improvement in your photography, just as I did when I started using a more considered approach to image capture.
Step-By-Step Guide To How I Set Up My Camera
I set up my camera with my preferred settings before every shoot to ensure that I'm fully equipped and prepared and able to concentrate on taking photos, and nothing else. This setup enables me to take consistently high-quality photos, which all have the same look and feel.
This is one of the ways I recreate my own style on every shoot. I think there's an important thing here about my style, I use the same settings, and I use the same basic processing in Lightroom. And that's why my photos look, although not the same, have the same look and feel, from one shoot to the next.
Step-By-Step Guide To How I Prepare My Photography Gear
I prepare my photography gear systematically to ensure that I'm always fully prepared for a shoot, here are the 10 steps that I go through.
Decide which gear I need.
Pack spares in a separate bag
Clean everything
Charge my batteries
Format memory cards (and put them in yellow case)
Choose a bag
Pack the gear I need
Pack the spares bag(s)
Pack the other odd stuff
Check the other stuff

What About The Other Types Of Photography?
There is no answer to this blog post - I went back through the list and spoke about some of them. But this is the point I want to make here.
Choose one type of photography and become excellent at it. Niche down, find your thing, find your specialism, and find the one thing that you want to be known at. I photograph buildings, and that is what I do.
What Is Product Photography?
Product photography is the specialism of photographing products to show them at their best for display, sale, and marketing purposes. Product photography is used to allow buyers to make informed decisions about the purchase of products. Product photography is a key part of the marketing of products online, with excellent product photography allowing products to stand out.
What Is Street Photography?
Street photography is photographing public places, and people in public places going about their daily business. Street photography often takes place without the knowledge of the subject, making images look natural. Street photography is also known as candid photography. Street photography is a specialist genre of photography.
Like I say, I didn't know that. I've heard of candid photography, I didn't know that it was now called street photography.
What Is Travel Photography?
Travel photography is the art of capturing all aspects of a place to inspire others to go there. Travel photography captures and conveys the physical location, landscape, people, and culture. Travel photography educates people not able to visit a location by providing interesting and informative photographs that convey what a place is really like.
Travel photography should make you want to be in that place. This is what travel photography is to me. Okay, all my own words there.
