Yes, I am venturing into the wonderful world of podcasting. Why? Well why not! I am an avid podcast listener, especially photography, blogging and online stuff.
Are you like me, looking for a new photography podcast? For me there isn’t a podcast out there that explains photography things in simple terms, in plain English. And quickly. So I thought that I would make one. Photography Explained is the name of the podcast where I will endeavour to explain one photographic thing in plain English in less that 10 minutes. Or maybe 20 minutes. I haven’t decided that bit yet.
When will the podcast launch?
The podcast will be launched in July 2020 with an introductory episode about me and my podcast. Once I have got this out of the way I will be getting straight into specific stuff.
A quick update on that
The Photography Explained Podcast was actually launched in October 2020 and has it’s own website imaginatively called the Photography Explained Podcast.
Well why not?
What will I be talking about?
- Episode 1 will be titled “What is Photography (To Me).”
- Episode 2 – How does a camera work?
- Episode 3 – A very brief history of photography
And after that?
And after that I don’t know at the time of writing this.
Update – check out the Photography Explained Podcast episode list page.
A word on not being perfect
I wanted to get everything set up before I launched the podcast, but this seems to have morphed into excuses to not launch it.
When I listen to other podcasts the one thing that every podcaster says is that their only regret is not starting sooner.
They all say that they wish they had launched and learned on the go.
This is what I am going to do. So I am going to dive straight in and improve as I go.
What about my photography blog?
I will still create a blog post on a Monday.
And I will also write a short blog post that accompanies each podcast episode, and will have a page on my website where I list the subjects that I am going to explain.
What is the point of this podcast?
The point is to explain things
quickly, in plain English, to a level of detail that helps us photographers
I will stop myself from deep diving into the weeds as I do not want or need that level of detail.
And this is my selling point. Explaining photography terms and things in plain English quickly and simply.
But not too serious
I will inject a touch of humour hopefully. This will not be a heavy podcast, hopefully it will be entertaining and informative.
And brief.
But also helpful.
And I want suggestions for things to explain
I will be inviting listeners to my podcast, and subscribers to my blog to suggest things for me to explain.
I will be starting off with things that I know, but I am really looking forward to learning new things and explaining them.
So my question to you is this.
How long a podcast would you like to listen to?
10 minutes? 20 minutes? Or not at all?
Please let me know as this is new to me.
No editing required. Hopefully.
And there will be no editing, not to start with anyway. For a simple reason.
I don’t know how to do edit audio!
I hope that the creation of the podcast will be relatively quick, certainly with the stuff I already know about.
If I can do the podcast in one take with headings to talk around I will be vey happy – that is my plan.
Whats next?
Next week I will provide an update on things and explain how I am producing the podcast.
I want to share the whole experience with my readers, which might inspire some of you to create your own podcasts?
That is all for this week, please get in touch with any thoughts you have, ideas, inspiration or even if you think that it is a rubbish idea! I would love to hear from you all.
