Photography Snobbery

Yes this is my photography snobbery page. Ever had someone tell you that you are doing something wrong, or that you need this or that gear?

Anyone really annoyed you with their photography snobbery? If they have let me know what happened and I will write about it.

Here is my starter for 10 – let’s build a list to help everyone who has been subject to photography snobbery.

  1. You have to use manual mode to be a proper photographer
  2. If you wear the camera strap with your camera model on you look stupid
  3. You can’t take proper photos using JPEG
  4. You aren’t a photographer if you use autofocus
  5. Film photography is the only real photography
  6. HDR is cheating
  7. Editing photos is cheating
  8. You have to use layers to be a real photographer
  9. You can’t take good photos at noon
  10. You need the latest camera gear

And these are the comments that I have received which is great – its not just me then…

  • One is only a real or pro photographer by using full-frame sensors.
  • Only a pro would use X brand of camera with X lens.

From MG

All of your words,so true but what I find offensive is a photography forum that is supposed to be a learning area for new photographers is really a put down by older, experienced, photographers. It is sad when you can’t answer a question without being a smart ass & ridiculing them.Makes we want to quit photography & take up something else!

From MS

My favourite snob moment was on a forum a couple of years back – “No self respecting photographer would ever have a camera with an articulating rear LCD screen…”

Good video – these things need to be said!
