Another Photography Podcast. Really? Yes Why Not??

Photography Explained Podcast Feature 15102020

I love podcasts. I listen to podcasts when I am driving, cutting the lawn and gardening. And any other time when I am on my own. And I have learned loads from them.

I have been looking for a podcast that explains photography stuff simply, and in nice basic terms, but I could not find it. So I created my own. The Photography Explained Podcast is my brand new photography podcast that explains a single photography thing in plain English, without the irrelevant details, in less that 10 minutes. And that is it. No fancy words, no bull, nothing that you do not need to know. No padding. No fillers.

Simply good old fashioned helpful advice.

And it is out there in Podcast land for all to listen to. Yes it is live out there on all the main podcast providers!

Who am I to create a photography podcast?

I am Rick McEvoy, a professionally qualified photographer with well over 35 years of time invested in learning, practising and working in photography. Since the age of 13 to be precise…..

And I am quite old now!

I have a lot of photography experience which I share on my website, my photography blog and now on my very own podcast.

Why the Photography Explained Podcast?

Well why not? Well I know how to turn a TV on, how to change the channels and turn the sound up and down. But do I understand how my TV actually works?

No – I do not have a clue. And I do not care. More importantly I do not need to know how a TV physically works. Understanding all that electrical stuff will not enhance my enjoyment of what I watch on TV.

And that is the level of my podcast.

Helpful explanations of photographic terms and things.

I will explain photography terms one at a time, one per episode. And the depth of the explanation will be enough to help photographers (me included) understand something to help them with their photography.

And no more.

No irrelevant details.

Nope, just the info that we need to help us with our photography and no more. I have in the past got lost in endless detail on things that I did not really need to know or understand, and I want you to benefit from the time I have wasted which will help you and I on our learning journey.

Why do I include myself in this?

Well I might have lots of years of experience in photography but I am still learning, always trying to improve. Sure, there will be some things that I know inside out, but there will also be many, many things that I do not know inside out so this is weekly learning for me as well.

And some things that I thought that I knew and understood that I might have had wrong for years!

Have I done a podcast before?

No. This is my very first go, and I am just going to go for it. It won’t be perfect, far from it, but it will be hopefully informative and maybe even a little bit entertaining.

Not that I will not try to produce the best quality that I can, but it will not be delayed by the need for more minor adjustments.

Will I edit the podcast?

I do not have a clue how to edit audio files so I expect the early episodes will be unedited. Hopefully I will be good enough to not need to edit out those ums, erms and other stuff. I want to keep it real after all.

Or more to the case I just want to record episodes and get them out there as soon as I can.

And I do not want to have to learn how to edit audio!

What are the first episodes going to be about?

Well the first episode will be an introductory one – that is the convention. A short introductory episode where I tell the listeners what my podcast will be all about.

Not that there will be any listeners to start with,

Does no listeners scare me?

No not really. Everyone has to start somewhere, and this is my podcast beginning. I will be interested (in an obsessive way) to see how many people listen to each podcast episode, how it is received, and if it grows at all.

Where do I find out more?

Check out the Photography Explained Podcast website where you can find out all about this.

Can I suggest things for you to explain?

Yes you can and you are invited to do just that – if you do I will give you a shout out on the podcast and a link to your website in the show notes.

How do I do that?

Email me at sales@rickmcevoyphotogrpahy.co.uk or go to this page on the Photography Explained Podcast. I don’t mind how people do this, it will just be great for them to get in touch and join the fun!

And there will be show notes?

Erm yes there will. Although I am not sure how I do these yet at the time of writing this post – more work for me to do but yes show notes are important and will be done.

See this really is new to me.

Do I have to pay to listen to the podcast?

No. Well not at the moment. If I become big and famous that might change (only kidding) but no it is free for all to enjoy and hopefully share with other like-minded people.

So why am I doing this?

OK – to be honest I have wanted to do this for ages. I have never found a podcast that explains things one thing at a time simply, in plain English. There always seem to be other bits, or levels of detail that do not quite do it for me.

I could not find the podcast I was looking for so all I can do is create it myself!

Web traffic and authority

OK – there is a reason behind this podcast. It is not solely a grand act of sharing info – no there is something in it for me.

Authority with Google. My podcast will link back to my website, helping Google see me as an authority in photography. Nothing wrong with that, and at least I am being completely honest about it.

And sponsors

My dream is that a company sponsors my podcast. Enough so I can quit my day job. Well that is the dream for most people (quitting the day job not the podcast) surely. Again I am happy to be completely honest and open about this.

But I will be learning too!

There will be some episodes where I am writing about something I do not really know about, which is good. You will see examples of this stuff on my blog also. I have enjoyed looking into new things and learning all about them and sharing that learning.

See I do enjoy sharing my knowledge

Each and every episode will be created to best serve the listener and explain the term in question, and not be written to attract a sponsor.

I just wanted to be clear about this.

Am I going to be doing any other podcasts?

Maybe. Let’s see how this one goes. It might be the making of me or might be a complete flop. One thing that I have learned is to do one thing at once and see how that goes before doing any more work on something.

Thanks for reading this, and I hope you enjoy my Photography Explained Podcast.

January Update
